Applying and editing styles

Use the Styles panel to store and apply styles to objects or text.

Styles panel

Fireworks does not keep track of which style you applied to an object; the object does not update if you edit the style.

To apply a style to a selected object or text block:

Click a style in the Styles panel.

To add a new style:

1 Create an object or text with the stroke, fill, effect, or text settings you want.
2 With the object selected, enter a name for the style:
Click the New Style button at the bottom of the Styles panel.
Choose New Style from the Styles panel Options pop-up menu.
3 Choose the properties you want to be part of the style and click OK.
An icon depicting the style appears in the Styles panel.

To edit a style:

1 Open the Edit Styles dialog box:
Double-click a style in the Styles panel.
Click a style in the Styles panel and choose Edit Style from the Options pop-up menu.
2 In the Edit Style dialog box, choose or deselect components of the style you wish to apply.

To base a new style on an existing style:

1 Apply the base style to a selected object.
2 Edit the attributes of the object.
3 Save the attributes as a new style.

To delete a style:

1 Choose a style from the Styles panel.
To select multiple styles for deleting, hold down the Shift key while choosing styles.
2 Click the Delete Style button in the Styles panel.

Note: If you delete a style you created, you cannot recover it. If you delete a style supplied in Fireworks, you can recover it and all other styles using the Reset Styles command in the Options pop-up menu. However, resetting styles also deletes your custom styles.

To reset the Styles panel to the default styles:

Choose Reset Styles from the Options pop-up menu.

To enlarge the style preview icons:

Choose Large Icons from the Options pop-up menu.

To switch back to the small previews:

Choose Large Icons again.
